How the traditional bulb inspired the Cool-Curve Bulbs

The Juice Technology engineering team developed the original design concepts for the Cool-Curve light bulbs after Juice won a highly competitive UK SBRI government contract. The product requirements of the competition were highly challenging, demanding a completely new approach to lamp design rather than following the pack.
Juice’s CTO, Phil Rimmer decided that starting from first principles was likely to generate the highest chance of success so went back to traditional light bulbs for inspiration. “The tungsten filament found in incandescent lamps tends to be formed into a near circle and provides a very good light distribution. We believed that if we could mimic or improve on that principle then the performance and light distribution requirements could be achieved.”
In fact Phil identified that by mounting the LED devices in a ring around the perimeter of the lamp and using a carefully designed refractive ring lens light distribution could be improved over the traditional product, providing equal output both forwards and backwards past the socket. So the design principles were set - all that had to be done now was to create a design that could be manufactured cost effectively!
